"White Fang"

The book "White Fang' is an interesting book that involves this wolf who got tamed. The cub was named White Fang for his fangs. He has been sold from his original owner to a different owner. His new owner was Beauty Smith and he got him for bottles of whisky. Beauty Smith made White Fang participate in dog fights. Every dog he fought he would either kill or was close to kill until he fought a bulldog named Cherokee. They split them up just in time before White Fang died.

In the book “White Fang” there was a Contrast and Contradiction. White Fang was always with his mother as a cub until she left. White Fang stayed with his owner once his mother left back into the wild. When his owner couldn't find any food they started killing animals for food so White Fang and the rest of the dogs ran away. While White Fang ran away he saw his mother and went up to her but she just backed away and hit him. His mother probably did this because she might not remember him because she left him when he was a cub. He later saw her again but this time instead of going up to her again he just left. This is different because as a cub he would always be by her and help her but this time he just left without trying to be with her. This tells us that he might be able to let go of people in his life that were important to him. Since his mother always raised him and protected him from the other mean dogs he was really attached to her. He was upset a little when she left but he was some what okay with it because he was with his new owner.

"The Devil's Arithmetic"

So far in the book "The Devil's Arithmetic" Hannah was enjoying her time with her family during one of her Jewish celebrations. In one of the traditions they have she has to open the door to Elijah. When she does she is brought back through time to live the life of her ancestor, Chaya, who she is named after. She experiences how terrible the conditions were in the Holocaust and how the concentration camps were. Right before Chaya was about to die she ends up back to her normal time in front of the door like how she was when she first time traveled.

One conflict in the book was when she time traveled to Poland. This conflict is self verse time. She doesn’t know what is happening and why it is happening. She’s not sure who the people are and what is going on. The next she’s fine with what’s going on, but she thinks she can’t lose her memory of her real self. Sadly, when she gets to the camp she forgets about her life, but remembers the facts of the Holocaust. Another conflict in the book is when one of the soldiers thinks the girls weren't working. This conflict is man verse man. He picked 3 out of the four girls Hannah was with. He picks every girl except for Hannah luckily, but unfortunately Rivka gets picked as one of the "chosen ones." While the three girls are leaving, Hannah goes up to Rivka and takes her ribbon. She puts it on herself and tells Rivka to run for her life. That means Hannah has to die in the concentration camp, but a second before she dies, she ends up back at home.

"White Fang"

I am reading this amazing book called "White Fang". So far "White Fang" is about how this she-wolf who kept killing Henry's dogs. Unfortunately only 2 of Henry's dogs survived out of 6. Later the she-wolf had a cub with old One-Eye. Old One-Eye later got killed by the lynx sadly. After old One-Eye died the she-wolf couldn't find any food besides the lynx's kitten. She killed the lynx's kitten so she can feed her cub and herself. The lynx was furious with the she-wolf so she went and attacked her. The she-wolf knew if she lost this fight her cub would end up dead, so she fought with all her might and won. That night they went to bed not starving.

Old One-Eye, the grey leader, and the young wolf were fighting over the she-wolf. Old One-Eye and the grey leader decided to team up and kill the young wolf. Later old One-Eye was left to fight the grey leader and he won the fight. The grey leader and the young wolf ended up dying and old One-Eye ended up with the she-wolf. Later when the lynx attacked the cub would have died if his mom didn't win the fight. If his mom lost he would have ended up dead like grey leader and young wolf. The fight with the lynx isn't the major climax in my opinion because it didn't really do that much damage because the lynx's didn't kill the she-wolf or her cub. I haven't got that far in the book to know the falling action unfortunately. I really like the book so far because it is really interesting. Its interesting because it has a lot of action between the wolves and its suspenseful because you never know if the cub is going to die or not. I think that maybe the cub will grow up with his mother because if the mother could win a fight with the lynx's then that proves she can protect her cub.

Holocaust

People who actually stood up for the Jewish were really brave because most people wouldn't do that. Most of the bystanders didn't step up because they're putting themselves and their family's at risk. Personally I wouldn't stand up because I would be putting my family in danger because the Nazi army was stronger than me. People would join the Nazi army only because they knew they wouldn't be killed because if they tried to protest they would most likely be dead.

Workers' Rights Reflection

People who worked for Coca Cola were sometimes threatened, kidnaped and even tortured if they were or even started a union for there rights. This is pretty much violating the human right number 14 because they weren't safe there especially since they were threatened and even killed. I was really surprised that Coca Cola would even do this why would they even think of threatening people. Its really upsetting that major companies like Coca Cola are doing this I wonder if other major companies might be doing the same thing like Coca Cola is.

In the poem "Sweatshop" it doesn't exactly say how they might be treated wrong it just says "I don’t know, I don’t know! I’m a machine!" while in the article it says "business affiliates of using paramilitary death squads to murder, torture, kidnap and threaten union leaders at the multinational soft drink manufacturer’s Colombian bottling plants." Coca Cola argument was about how they will stop threatening unions so it can be a safer environment for the workers. It affected on how to understand the meaning because in the article it gives examples on how they feel when they are working. So in the poem it says the feeling and by reading the article in our heads we will be thinking maybe thats how the workers felt or maybe this is happening to them.

"Dreamland" Blog

In the book Dreamland you can finally find out what the council does to the decision Riley made by intervening into a souls world when she wasn't because it wasn't assigned to her. The council didn't punish them because she was new at this instead they did congratulate her because she got a bunch of souls to cross the bridge. As a reward she got to have a break from soul catching so she can just relax in the Here and Now. Riley has a lot of fun spending time with her parents and grandparents she even learned how to surf, paint a landscape, and knit. She know that since the council saw she can handle convincing a hard task of getting a bunch of souls to cross the bridge then they would give her harder challenges.

I think my book is Science Fiction because its talking about stuff that could happen but isn't going to happen. The thing that I like about this book is that it isn't like a ordinary book that takes place on earth because this book takes place in Here and Now but also on the earths plane. I have read this type of genre before because of the other books in the series. I would like to read more types of book of this type of genre because it isn't just taking place on earth it can be taking place on somewhere else that we might have never even thought of.

"Shimmer" Blog

This is one of the greatest book series ever. This book is the second book from the series. It had a lot of challenging words but that okay because its better than just reading a too easy book. Riley has bin having some trouble with following orders from Bodhi. Riley met Prince Kanta at first she thought he would be able to help her to get Bodhi and Buttercup out of Rebecca's trap. He eventually was able to help her but at first she didn't really rely on him because she felt like he was a homeless prince. Once they got Bodhi and Buttercup out of Rebecca's trap they got all the lost souls to cross the bridge that were also trapped. If you want to find out how Rebecca died or if she even crosses the bridge then you will just have to read the book for your self.

The number one conflict in this story was when Rebecca trapped Bodhi and Buttercup in her world where she made them live in the time that caused them the most pain. This was the main conflict because the story is mostly about how to get Bodhi and Buttercup out. It was also about how to get the souls that were trapped out of it. The theme for this book would probably be that forgiveness will help you move on. I think thats the theme because the only way to get out of Rebecca's trap was to forgive yourself from what is causing your pain. For example if the thing that cause you the most pain is stealing money then if you don't forgive yourself it will keep on causing you pain and not letting you move on.

Summary of "Shimmer"

I am reading the book Shimmer. So far it has bin a amazing book especially since it is the second book of Radiance the book I read last time. In this book so far Bodhi has noticed the Riley is more stubborn because she had tried to get a black dog to cross the bridge when the dog wasn't assigned to her by the council. Later in the story while she was trying to find the dog she ran into another person but she was dead. At first she transformed into Riley but made her girly but after a while she realized Riley was dead like her so she transformed into her normal self. Riley found her really odd because she was also in a cemetery. After a while Riley gave up on finding the dog and went back to Bohi and she said "she will try not to be stubborn and actually follow Bodhi rules".

The point of view for Shimmer is first person. Here in the book one of lines it is " I followed the sound of it." First person uses I, we, etc. and in the book Riley is telling the story. I like book with first person because then it isn't than confusing on who the narrator is talking about or speaking for. Since its just one person then it won't be that complicated.

"Call of Duty" Blog

This story is about Jose that joined the army and he had a terrible accident. His job was to find IED with his dog Zenit. Unfortunately he stepped on a IED and he had to have both his legs amputated. The army assigned Zenit to someone else because they considered him a piece of equipment. I think that they shouldn't have done this because Jose really likes Zenit. The army should have a heart for him because he lost both his legs because of that job the least they can do is let Jose be with Zenit.

"Treasure of Lemmon Brown" Blog

Greg has bin wanting be play basketball for a while but his father said he can only play if he didn't fail math. Greg's father would always lecture him about doing well in school because Greg's father only go to stay in school until he was 13 years old. Greg kept getting annoyed because his father would continuously lecturing him. Greg later met Lemmon Brown in a abandoned building and he found out he was homeless and that he used to play the Blues. Later Lemmon Brown told Greg his story and Greg finally realized his father was just trying to help him. I think that it was great that Greg realized that his father was only trying to help him do well in school instead of failing. It was great that he met Lemmon Brown because if he didn't meet him then he probably wouldn't realized what his father was actually trying to do by lecturing him about his grades. I found it surprising that Greg didn't realize this earlier up until he met Lemmon Brown.

Summary of "Radiance"

Radiance is an amazing book about a 12 year old girl who died and was assigned a job as a soul catcher. Riley died in a car crash with her mom and dad they all crossed the bridge and they are now in a place called Now and Here. In Now and Here you can manifest anything as long as you wish for it. According to how their life was when they were alive thats how the council decides what Riley's job will be. She gets assigned a job by Bodhi which is her instructor and he assigns her the job to get the Radiant Boy to cross the bridge because no one so far who has tried has accomplished it. She accomplished her task and got the Radiant Boys to cross the bridge to that means Bodhi has to teach her how to fly and that she will be able a place that she wants to go. In the end she did learn how to fly and she also got her dog to fly and she got to visit the earth plane and have a great time but she realized that she like Now and Here better than the earth plane so she wanted to in Now and Here better than the earths plane.

Riley was the main character of this story she was really determined especially when she got the Radiant Boys to cross the bridge. The things that made her determined to accomplish her task was that she would be able to learn how to fly. She is also confident because right away she knew she can get the Radiant Boys to cross the bridge even after Bodhi and many other people have tried before and failed.

Summary of "A Monster Calls"

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness was a book about how Conor is having this horrifying dream while his mother is battling cancer. Conor doesn't want to speak of the dream because he knows the truth of what he did. There is a monster which was a yew tree who kept going outside Conor's backyard at exactly 12:07 am. The monster was here to help Conor but Conor didn't know that he only thought the monster was here to help his mother. The monster helped Conor let go of his mother in the end because in the dream Conor was holding on to his mother from falling but he loosened his grip a little and just let her fall.
